On February 16th, I’ll be giving a talk on Ubuntu Linux to the Ivy Tech Computer Club. To be honest, I don’t a whole lot of experience with Ubuntu, other than occasionally firing up Firefox on it, since I do have an Ubuntu box here on my desk.
What are some of Ubuntu’s strengths that should be pointed out to a number of College students who’ve never touched Linux? Are there any major issues with Ubuntu? What would you highlight if you were giving the talk?

You could play up package availability and management (the Debian aspects), as well as Ubuntu’s way or working with root-access privileges, but both of those points are for those that already know linux.
For neophytes, I’d say work up the chrome and community angles. Ubuntu stands strongly behind helping new users, and their wiki is a very useful tool, as well as IRC channels, mailing lists, and forums. And it looks pretty.

I think I’ll point out (and demonstrate) the various software packages that are available, as well as how easy it is to install them.
Thanks for the link as well — I think I’ll distribute copies of that to those in attendance. I know some of those that will be there and know that they like “eyecandy” so I may show off the Gentoo install on my laptop as well.
